I'm fat. Fat is a thing I have, but it's not a thing that I am -- and I think by using the word "fat," it better distinguishes what fat REALLY is from what we've been socially led to believe it is. It's a bodily state; it's not a reflection of me or any other fat person beyond that.

@Jennifer: Thank you :) That means a lot.

@Libertad & Guinever: Thanks for letting me post about this here. I think it's very sad that so many people feel that to help fat people (because all fat people need help, right?!) they should either ostracise them or point out their "mistakes". And when I say people, unfortunately I also mean many fat people themselves, who feel the need to pull out from society or to constantly blame themselves. It's such a loaded issue. For example, I feel unconfortable using the word "fat", because it sounds like it would offend someone. But why should it? It is always such a heavy topic (no pun intended at all, although there is probably some semantics issue there too), and it's so hard for people to empathize ( I almost said "empathize correctly", but is there such a thing?). It's also sad how people are so sure all the problems a fat person has comes from that, as if skinny people didn't have any problems. Well, it's a sensitive issue and I'm happy people are talking about it. It needs to be talked about, so thank you!Young at Hearthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08657004967133023198noreply@blogger.com
