We met this lovely blogger at Kidlitcon earlier this year and just had to have her on to talk about her blog, Charlotte's Library. She's just one of those bloggers that constantly updates her content(which takes a lot of work as y'all know) and does an amazing job at highlighting diverse titles. If there is ever a blog we look to for recommendations, her blog is definitely that one.

Welcome to our first day of 2nd Annual Diversity Month.  Today starts out strong from an amazing blogger we met on twitter.  Her topic is a a topic many don't touch in the subject of Queer YA fiction: Asexuality.

Asexuality is an identity my sister and I had very little knowledge of before this year and we're so ever grateful for the internet, otherwise we'd never get a chance to converse about this subject as openly as Teresa has, our guest for today. Let's open up our minds and open the floor for this first post. It's amazing, informative and just damn good! So without wasting anymore time....

Thoughts on #KidLitCon Day 1- Theme DIVERSITY

So for those of you bloggers that don't know much about Book Conferences(Don't feel alone, we're just discovering a lot of them too XD) they're basically events that celebrate what's new in publishing. I'm sure everyone has heard of Book Expo America? 

So yea, This year we wanted to start attending more Book Conferences because blogging can be pretty lonesome. You have your faithful followers who always show you love with their rec's and comments, but we made ourselves a few promises that we'd go out there and start meeting other bloggers who blog about books. Put some faces to the blogs that we follow and luckily a Book Conference called "Kid Lit Con", made it really easy to do that.

We don't know if there was one book in particular that have truly inspired us fellow book bloggers to start our book blog. Maybe it was the promise of free books? Or was it the chance to connect with other book lovers like yourselves. 

For us it was a blog. A called DiversifYA. 

I'm sure we talk about this ALL the time. Too much maybe. But when we started our book blog, we were really frustrated that there weren't a lot of blogs that highlighted diverse books, writers and stories. DiversifYA isn't really a book blog per say. It's more of a blog that tries to shed some light on some interesting topics, themes and interviews you often see missing from book discussions:

Diversity in books.

DiversifYA is run by Marieke Nijkamp, who describes herself as a storyteller, dreamer, globe-trotter, and proud-to-be-geek. We just describe her as TOTALLY DOPE!

(Check us out, we actually got the chance to meet her at this years BookCon via the #weneeddiversebooks presentation.)

Marieke Nijkamp is extremely dedicated to the cause of Diverse Books and wants to be your Pitch Wars mentor. Isn't that awesome?

Blogs like DiversifYA are a total gem and we always learn something new peeking through it's blog posts. Trying to be a writer that incorporates diversity? Afraid of getting it wrong?

 Marieke's blog is the right place to start to read about different people's experiences so you know some things to avoid!

Sorting through the excess that is the blogosphere, it's great to see the a book blog that takes an unconventional look at the way they review.

Originally from Europe, between sloshing through close to 150+books a year, (Un)Convential Bookviews, aka *Lexxie* brings up excellent discussions on her blog, on the state of sexuality amongst women, and young women in novels.

They are topics one should read if you get a chance. Slut shaming and robbing girls and women of their right to explore their sexuality the way they want to should be unacceptable, but has become so apart of our culture, very few don't even realize when they're doing so.

So we all have them. Blogs and Bloggers that we follow religiously! Oh yes! We are not ashamed to say that we have a list full of sites that we stalk on a regular basis. In fact, we thought, Why not turn an event out of it. So that brings us to Week Two of our favorites month:

Our first honor goes to a Blog/Blogger that we totally love and adore who goes by the pseudonym, *Donnie Darko Girl*

This blogger ranks high with us because I mean let's face it, She's pretty DAMN COOL! I mean would you look at her hair! 

Dope, right???

I think what we love most about this blogger is that she's so dedicated to the content that's on her blog. As a fellow book blogger, We know it can be difficult sometimes to by consistent with content and some days, you just don't feel like it. She's also pretty diverse with her choice of books that she reviews, so you can always look forward to all types of different reviews on her blog! There's nothing like a book blog reviewer that is totally limited to just YA, NA or romance!

 Not this blogger! Don't you love that!

We can always count on Jennifer to for awesome reviews, Stellar posts and tons of love! We hear she's also an aspiring writer, so with that larger than life online persona, we look extra forward to her future works!
