Question this Week
Happy Mother's Day! Who is your favorite mom from fiction?

Libertad: I really don't have a favorite mom. Parents are somewhat non-existent in YA novels and when they are present sometimes they aren't realistic. They give their children way too much freedom but in the real world, you'd get grounded for doing 1/2 the stuff these kids do in YA novels :P

Guinevere:Hmm...this is a hard one since so far most of the books i've read the moms featured were kinda spacey and didn't act like real "moms".Is it just me, or do most teens in YA novels have no parents or ones that pay them no mind? A couple others have said Ron Weasley's mom, but i still don't think she left a huge impact on me to go as far to say she's my favorite mom. I'm still looking for that mom that reminds me of my own!

  2. Yep, this was a hard question, especially when considering YA books, lol! Keeping parents at a distance are what put the main YA characters in control of the book :/ Something else I didn't put in my post & almost forgot is Vivian Baxter, Maya Angelou's mom... but she's not fictional so... lol! I'm following via Bloglovin', have a great day ya'll!

    2. What I meant to say before i deleted the last comment was that I really liked your answer.Even though she's a real person, I wish more mom's could be like real moms!

  3. A lot of people chose Molly Weasley as the best mom. She really is great!! I wish I could be one of the Weasleys!!
I agree, parents exist in YA books only when they are abusive, otherwise they are barely mentioned. This is kind of twisted...
Great post!! I'm a new follower via GFC. Thanks for following my blog (:

    1. Hmm...now that you mention it i do notice that parents only exist when they are abusive or maybe even a little dysfunctional. thanks for provoking that thought out of us XD

  4. You've both addressed great points which is why this question is so difficult to answer! I feel most mothers in YA books are very unrealistic when it comes to parenting, they do not react like real moms do! Great FF answers ladies :)

    New GFC Follower!! Happy reading!

  5. I find it a little disappointing as well that mothers are never really in YA books and being good mothers. Adult books I can get them not being there since the heroine is usually an adult, but still. I do find it sad.

Thanks for visiting and following my blog! Returning the follow!

    Have a GREAT weekend!

  9. There are very few books that have realistic mother, like you said. YA nowadays just don't have good parents in them.
    Following you back :D

  11. Yeah, I felt like this week's question was tough since parents aren't really around a lot in YA. New GFC follower.

  12. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I must say that your blog name got my attention. I hadn't really noticed that there isn't all that much variety culture wise in the books I read! I know they're out there though but not mainstream.

    Following you via bloglovin'

  13. It also occurred to me that so many moms in books these days are absentee moms, flaky moms, or the typical "evil step mother". I find that really frustrating.

Thanks for stopping by my blog this week! Now following you via GFC.
